Assignment description

We are now looking for a Senior Software Engineer - AI-Native on the behalf of our client.

Background:

We make it easy for customers to complete their purchases at IKEA, and help IKEA retailers grow and keep costs down. Our team owns checkout, cart and favourites on IKEA's e-commerce sites. We are building a new checkout and want developers who will build it and run it in production. The work spans all three areas.

  •

The scope of the consultant services is to assist IKEA in:

We use AI agents every day to turn ideas into working software. People set the direction, review the results and decide what goes live. We are moving towards agents that take a development task from start to finish, backed by clear instructions, automated checks and human judgement. You will help shape that way of working.

    Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

    • AI-Native Software Development: Design, build and evolve the product, using AI coding agents as the daily development workflow. Turn product and technical requirements into production-ready software while using human judgement to guide, review and validate agent-generated solutions.
    • Agentic Development Practices: Help establish and continuously improve the engineering work where AI agents can take increasingly wider development tasks from requirement to implementation, testing and pull request. Define the instructions, context, guardrails and feedback loops that enable agents to work effectively and safely within the codebase.
    • Full Lifecycle & Production Ownership: Take responsibility for solutions from idea through implementation, deployment and operation in production. Build with observability, reliability, security and maintainability in mind, and actively troubleshoot and improve the application based on production behaviour.
    • AI Engineering Enablement & Continuous Improvement: Experiment with and evaluate new agentic engineering techniques, tools and workflows. Help the team progress toward at least 90% AI-assisted pull requests and at least 50% of pull requests primarily written by agents, while measuring whether AI usage actually improves lead time, quality and maintainability.
    • Checkout, Cart & Favourites Engineering: Contribute across the three product areas and help create coherent technical solutions across customers' shopping journeys. Manage dependencies, APIs, state and data flows between Checkout, Cart, Favourites and surrounding IKEA commerce capabilities.
    • Engineering Quality & Automated Guardrails: Build strong automated quality controls around AI-assisted development, including automated testing, code quality, security checks, architecture rules and CI/CD validation. Ensure that increased development speed does not compromise reliability or customer experience.
    • Technical Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing: Work closely with other developers, product, UX and surrounding product teams. Share effective AI-native development practices and help the team develop the skills and working agreements needed to operate successfully with AI agents.

Desired knowledge, experience, competence, skills etc:

    Tech stack:

    • The new checkout is built with React and TypeScript. Behind it sits a BFF in Node.js and TypeScript that talks to our backend APIs. The frontend is served as static files from a CDN, with some logic running at the edge.
    • Azure and Cloudflare.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Proven experience of driving AI-first development: working this way on real code and getting others to do the same. It can come from a client team, your own company, open source or a substantial project of your own. You can describe your workflow and show the result. Courses, videos and small hobby projects do not count.
    • Senior frontend developer in React and TypeScript. Your assignments must include production web apps with significant traffic. You can tell when generated code is wrong and fix it.
    • Building a BFF or API layer in Node.js and TypeScript that sits between a frontend and several backend services.
    • Owning what you build in production: automated tests, frequent releases, and fixing problems when they happen.
    • Fluent English, spoken and written.

    Good to have:

    • Experience from e-commerce, especially checkout, cart, payment or order flows.
    • Tech lead for one of these web apps. If so, the CV should state the team size and which decisions were yours.
    • Accessibility work against WCAG.
    • Sites that run in many markets and languages.

    On your application:

On your application, please ensure the CVs include the following:

    • LinkedIn profile link of the candidate.
    • Seniority definition: If assigning a level (e.g., Senior Developer), please include your definition of that level.
    • Recent experience: Assignments from the last three years only, highlighting the candidate's contributions, key decisions and outcomes (not just project descriptions).
    • Skills evidence: Each listed technical skill should be linked to an assignment where it was applied.
    • Role alignment: The responsibilities described should reflect the candidate's actual role (e.g., technical leadership rather than coordination).
    • AI workflow: A brief description, in the candidate's own words, of how they use AI in their development workflow.

Please note that there is no minimum years-of-experience requirement; selection will be based on demonstrated skills and relevant experience.

    Start: ASAP

    Duration: 2027-08-31 (possibility for extension)

    Workload: 100%

    Location: Malmö

We will present candidates on an ongoing basis, so if interested please don´t hesitate to apply!
