Assignment Overview

The assignment is within Manufacturing Engineering at Volvo Cars and supports the industrialization of advanced High Voltage Battery Assembly systems for Battery Electric Vehicles.

The work is performed in a cross-functional engineering environment covering manufacturing processes, automated production equipment, product-to-process interfaces, quality assurance and supplier collaboration.

The consultant will secure dimensional robustness across product, tooling and manufacturing interfaces by defining datum, tolerance, locating, clamping and measurement strategies for High Voltage Battery Assembly. The objective is consistent dimensional quality and stable assembly conditions in automated production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own geometry-assurance activities for assigned battery assembly scope.
  • Define and challenge datum systems, locating principles, clamp sequence and fixture concepts.
  • Perform or coordinate tolerance stack-ups, variation analysis and dimensional risk assessments.
  • Translate product characteristics into measurable manufacturing CTQs and fixture requirements.
  • Review product, process and equipment concepts for dimensional feasibility and robustness.
  • Coordinate with product engineering, metrology, tooling, joining and equipment suppliers.
  • Define measurement, correlation, capability and buy-off strategies.
  • Lead dimensional problem solving, root-cause analysis and corrective-action verification.

Required Competencies

  • GD&T and datum-system expertise - 5+ years - Critical
  • Tolerance stack-up, variation analysis and geometry assurance - 5+ years - Critical
  • Fixture locating, clamping and dimensional buy-off - 3+ years - Critical
  • Precision high-volume manufacturing geometry - 3+ years - High
  • Measurement-data and capability analysis - 3+ years - High

Preferred Competencies

  • High Voltage Battery Assembly geometry experience.
  • RD&T, 3DCS, CETOL, VSA or equivalent variation-analysis tools.
  • CMM, scanning, vision or inline metrology.
  • Joining-process effects, thermal distortion and compliant assembly.
  • Supplier fixture correlation and automotive production launch.

Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent demonstrated professional experience relevant to the assignment.

Experience Required

Senior-level industrialization experience in automotive, battery manufacturing, electrification or comparable high-volume automated production. The consultant should be able to work independently, own technical deliverables and collaborate effectively with engineering teams and equipment suppliers.

Deliverables

  • Geometry-assurance plan and dimensional risk register.
  • Datum, locating and clamping strategy.
  • Tolerance-stack and variation-analysis recommendations.
  • Fixture and equipment geometry requirements.
  • Measurement, correlation and capability plan.
  • Dimensional acceptance and production-readiness evidence.
  •

    PLEASE NOTE!

Volvo Cars require that an adequate background check has been completed prior to the start of the assignment, meaning that you, as the supplier, must have conducted the requested level/-s of background check as soon as possible after your candidate has been chosen for the assignment.
